Bollywood sells like hot cakes. One doesn’t really need a proof of it with every second movie reaching the 100 crore mark. Initially, it was the A-list actors like Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan or Hrithik Roshan who belonged to this elite group. When it comes to box office collections in crore, and Salman Khan doesn’t top the list, it simply cannot happen. He is one of the early entrant into the 100 crore club. His last release broke all the records and garnered Rs 216.84 crore. If Rohit Shetty’s Singham was a hit, then Singham Returns was a super hit. The Ajay Devgan and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer not only managed to strike a chord amongst the masses, but also managed to make a collection worth Rs 139.96 crore. Akshay Kumar comes with at least three movies each year and manages to make great business with all of the releases. Holiday was his first release of the year with actress Sonakshi Sinha. The movie made a collection of Rs 112.4 crore. Jai Ho was Salman Khan’s first offering in the year 2014 with debutante Daisy Shah. The movie was directed by Salman’s brother Sohail Khan. It also saw ace actress Tabu after a long sabbatical. It earned about Rs 107.21 crore. Adapting a book into a movie is catching up on with Bollywood. An example is the movie 2 States. The movie was an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s book 2 States. The movie starred Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor. These new comers managed to make a business of Rs 107.71 crore with this movie.
